John Malkovich

John Malkovich

A successful collaboration continues, the one between John Malkovich and Michael Sturminger – who directed the operaThe Giacomo Variations”,  and the movieCasanova Variations” starring the iconic actor as the greatest seductor of all times, Giacomo Casanova – and enriches by the teaming with Martin Haselböck and gives rise to “The infernal comedy. Confessions of a serial killer”, a play which will feature in the 2015 edition of Bucharest International George Enescu Festival and will be staged on 9th September 2015 at the Sala Palatului. An unusual work like everyone imagines when it’s involved John Malkovich ( who also recently features in a smashing video of French band AaRON to launch “We cut the night”, the new album it made which will be released on September about which I tell you much more during the forthcoming days), who tells about Jack Unterweger, a dead serial killer who returns on the stage to present his autobiography during a public reading. To expect the unexpected is the categorical imperative connected to this play where the being John Malkovich blends with music by Beethoven, Haydn, Weber and Mozart and successfully makes concrete the presence of moment, paradigm which is the cornerstone of dramatic arts.

John Malkovich

Confessions of a serial killer”(“La commedia infernale.

The star of stage and screen

Olfactive experiences and nice encounters featured in my day at Esxence, event focused on  artistic perfumery and its culture which was held in Milan at the Triennale Design Museum. Dhaer Bin Dhaer, nice and fun Dubai sultan who created the scent Tola, has been one of the first people I met. The scents he made were showcased along with many objects as a weird mask and the scarves that emphasized on their oriental charm and warm suggestions reminding the desert and made me think about the “Sheltering sky”, celebrated movie by Bernardo Bertolucci (and more specifically about a scene featuring John Malkovich and Amina Annabi and its moving soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto). The packaging of perfumes is very catchy, including also a dropper, successful way to depict a gesture and a kind of fetishism connected to the scent which makes concrete also a smart marketing choice.

A playful, ironic and provocative, pop mood, connected to the olfactive libertinage shines in Etat Libre D’ Orange, French brand created by the brilliant Etienne De Swardt, including unusual fragrances as “Don’t get me wrong baby I don’t swallow”, “Charogne”(a scent I experienced a long ago, for a long time), “Secretions magnifiques”, the scent reinterpreting the scent of sperm, created by one of my favorite noses, Antoine Lie(who also made “Sulphur” by Nu-be), “Archives 69”, inspired by “Drencula”, erotic novel on vampires by Boris Vian, the first trans-scent “Afternoon of a faun”, created by the eclectic artist and beloved friend Justin Vivian Bond and last but not the least “Cologne”, a nice scent. This new perfume, which will be released on May, represents something being unexpected, considering the outrageous attitude of brand. Etienne told me “it was a way to break the rules and sometimes we break our own rules”. After the decadence now it shines the nice and its freshness embodied in this scent.

Nevertheless the freshness is the core of Eau d’ Italie,  Positano brand, producing a series of fragrances, created by Sebastian Alvarez Mureno, evoking the freshness of sea and Mediterranean visions. The combinations giving rise to its alchemies are many, some are enriched also of spicy, woody notes or red fruits as “Graine de Joie”, the new fragrance, but all the ones have in common the freshness. A refined freshness which makes this scent a passé-partout, appreciated by people who don’t like aggressive and intense smells, being all of these scents extremely delicate.

It was fun to see again the Australian milliner Naomi Goodsir featuring in Exsence as brand of fragrances as the caressing “Cuir Velours”, joining tobacco, rum, cistus labdanum, incense and fleur d’ immortelle and “Or dù Serail” which embodies tobacco along with ambery, woody and musky notes.

INCONTRI & ESPERIENZE OLFATTIVE AD ESXENCE

Mustafa Sabbagh and Tola, photo by N

Mustafa Sabbagh and Tola, photo by N

John Malkovich

The charismatic, brilliant actor and fashion designer John Malkovich who created the menswear brand Technobohémien – arisen from his eternal passion for textiles of whose he is a collector, successfully joining “a timeless elegance to high-end materials” as he asserted about one year ago when I met him during the launch of brand -, of whose creations he made, by using the renowned fabrics from the Prato textile district, were showcased in an exhibition, recently opened in Rome at the Rossmut concept storewhich will run through 13th January 2013 -, curated by Jack Fisher featuring also the creations by the artist Paolo Angelosanto. Fashion and art as the actor will interpret the legendary lover Giacomo Casanova in “The Giacomo Variations”, opera directed by Michael Sturminger and co-starring Ingeborga Dapkünaité of whose American premiere will be held in New York at the New York City Center from 31st May to 2nd June 2013. The performance is inspired by Casanova’s 1790 memoir “Histoire de ma vie” along with of Mozart’s best-known operas – Cosi Fan Tutte, Don Giovanniand The Marriage of Figaro – performed live by a Wiener Academy Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Martin Haselböck. A not to be missed happening to enjoy John Malkovich in one of the roles which fits at best on him, the seducer.
